Frequently Asked Questions

Cosmetic tattooing, also known as permanent makeup (PMU), is a form of tattoo artistry that enhances natural features through precise pigment implantation. The pigment sits more superficially than a traditional tattoo, allowing results to fade softly over time for future updates or color refreshes.

We specialize in:

  •   Brows – Nano, Powder, and Combination techniques for soft, natural definition.
  •   Lips – Sheer lip blush to restore natural color and symmetry.
  •   Eyeliner – Lash enhancement or soft shaded liner for subtle framing.
  •   Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) – Density blending and hairline restoration for men and women.
  •   Scar Camouflage – Restorative tattooing that softens and conceals healed scars or skin discoloration.

Results generally last 1–3 years, depending on skin type, lifestyle, and skincare routine.

Annual color refreshes are recommended to maintain tone and shape.

Most clients describe only mild discomfort. A topical anesthetic is used throughout the procedure to keep you comfortable.

Each service begins with a detailed consultation, custom design, and color selection.

Once mapped and approved, the procedure is performed using sterile, single-use equipment.

You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions before you leave.

Mild redness, swelling, and darkness of color are normal for the first few days.

Soft flaking may occur around days 3–7.

By weeks 4–6, the color settles into its final shade.

Healing time varies by procedure but averages 4–6 weeks for brows and lips, and 7–10 days for eyeliner, SMP, or scar camouflage.

Yes. A perfecting session is scheduled 6–12 weeks after your initial appointment to refine color and shape.

Maintenance touch-ups every 1–3 years keep your results looking fresh.

In many cases, yes — though prior work must be evaluated first.

If pigment is too dark, saturated, or uneven, lightening or laser removal may be required before new work can be performed.

You may not be eligible if you:

  •   Are pregnant, nursing, or within 3 months postpartum.
  •   Have had surgery in the treatment area within 3 months.
  •   Are within 6 months of chemotherapy or radiation.
  •   Have used Accutane (isotretinoin) within 12 months.
  •   Have active acne, eczema, psoriasis, or open wounds in the area.
  •   Have uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, or certain autoimmune conditions (physician clearance required).

Please review our Contradictions below.

Yes — proper pre-care ensures optimal healing and pigment retention:

  •   Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinning medications or supplements for 24–48 hours.
  •   Discontinue retinol, exfoliants, and brightening acids in the area for 2–3 weeks.
  •   Avoid chemical peels, microneedling, or laser treatments for 4 weeks.
  •   Limit sun exposure for 7 days; skin that’s burned or tanned cannot be safely tattooed.
  •   Consult your doctor before adjusting or stopping any prescribed medications.

Avoid sweating, swimming, saunas, and makeup on the treated area for 10–14 days.

After that, you can gradually return to your usual routine — with gentle care and daily SPF.

When performed by a licensed artist under sterile conditions, risks are minimal.

Possible reactions include minor swelling, irritation, or pigment lightening.

Serious complications are extremely rare but may include infection or allergic response — which is why medical history, aftercare, and proper sanitation are non-negotiable at Bella Faccia.

Cosmetic tattooing can restore symmetry and definition where hair or pigment has been lost.

  •   SMP creates the look of natural hair density on the scalp.
  •   Scar Camouflage softens and blends healed scars or discoloration into surrounding skin tone.

Both techniques require skin to be fully healed, stable in color, and cleared by a physician if post-surgical.
